Doom Kitten

My first win for a long time, its gotta be about 6 months since I really did anything on createmytattoo, so its a real treat when you have a little win. I’m real pleased to be back! and looking forward to working with more of you this year. Its become very apparent that I need to do work more on tattoo designs and new competitions as I’m am getting tattoo invites daily on createmytattoo. I know some of those invites may get missed by me, as I have other work commitments but I will try my best. Overall expect to see a whole lot more new work from me this year.

Since I last blogged on here, I have now opened up another Etsy shop to help promote my tattoo art. I am selling my existing flash as well as originals that I have. Its a shame to keep them hidden away and I know some of you guys will appreciate some original art. I also thought it would be a neat idea to rework some of my older designs and sell some prints, not everyone needs a tattoo.  Here’s a sneak preview of some of the designs I have been working on, along with a new “Mother of Dragons” art that I created for a future T-shirt design that I’m hoping to get printed sometime soon.

Your Tattoo Art and Design.

Part 1

If your looking for a tattoo artist to help you design the perfect tattoo for you here are some tips to help you when thinking about your tattoo Design.

Image and Style are the most important parts of the design process, and gives me the perfect idea of what you are looking for its a window into your soul.”

• Good photos/images are everything, they contain all visual information a tattoo artist needs. So you need clear photos, larger the size the better, with all the information you need within the photo.

• Style – your in love with, it maybe an artists style and how they create. If you don’t have a style you like, then show me the tattoo style you like ;)

• Themegothic, old school, celtic, moody, colorful, bright, bold, fantasy, whimsical, biochemical, dark, horror, pinup, comic, etc

• Color or Greyscale, or just plain black.

• Size

• Placement.

Your Skin Color is helpful too, as this will effect the color of the tattoo, but your tattoo artist will adjust the colors tones so they look great on your skin.

Basic rules in artwork the more simple the design the more it will stand out so don’t overcomplicate things. The eye is in the small detail and it will bring your tattoo to life.

Part 2

Since I have been designing tattoos, I get all kinds of different customers, and everyone is has a unique request. Normally my work can go one of two ways. In showing you the different senarios I can help improve our experience :) most of the time I get a person like:

Customer A. You who knows exactly what you want, right down to the image or photo to work from and the style, by this you have an image of a style you like, sometimes a favorite tattoo artist, fantasy artist etc.

Customer B. You who have seen a tattoo you like and you want a tattoo in the same style, but you want a fish rather than a flower.

Customer C. You have a simple theme like the Roaring Lion Tattoo, but you want a message conveyed in the theme. Its then up to me as an artist to bring it alive.

CustomeD.  Likes free range, by this I mean you want some angel wings for a tattoo and  you want them in celtic style, but you give me full range to come up with something from my imagination.

and occasionally I get

Customer E. You have an idea of what you want but you send me lots of different images and all of them different in styles, but none of them  are working together, this is very confusing for me cause I’m not sure which one to go with. You then have no exact image or models to work from. You are then asking me to come up with something out of thin air and design something, and you might not like it. Then as we are working together you change the image or you send me a tiny image I cannot work with. This is bad for both of us, for you it will be disheartening because I cannot draw what you want, and for myself it uses up way to much of my time and I become disillusioned as an artist and I can lose interest.

If you are person E then this blog post is just for you, to help improve your experience, and help give the most important information I need to help you.

My personal experience.

As an artist I just love people and when I design for you I want to make sure you are not just happy with your tattoo, but the service. Its the most wonderful experience to design for you, we are all born with a gift and when share them its the best experience.

Usually before I decide to take on a new commission I ask to speak with you via skype, Hearing your voice and your story, gives me a great insight into your persona and your design. You may also have questions for me and I will have some for you. Its important to me, that you are comfortable working with me. And that you can contact me if you need to. I can’t stress enough that the experience is everything.

More about our working together.

Roaring Tattoo Experience :)

My most recent tattoo I drew was from a competition at createmytattoo. The contest inspiration is a memorial for a brother. He was looking for a tattoo of a lion to help capture how he was, dominant and strong… and this is what I came up with. I was a great idea behind a tattoo and I really enjoyed doing it, and Ryan the contest holder  loved what I did. I must admit competition was fierce and there were some really awesome entries. So I was very pleased when I won:)

I really enjoy designing for createmytattoo because it gives me chance to do something different, and push the boundries. It does not matter whether I win or not, its all about entering and trying.

If you are looking for a tattoo design that is just for you then createmytattoo is a great place to start. Here you will find many tattoo designers, myself included who want to help design you the perfect tattoo. By putting together a description of your tattoo idea and any images you have, to give the artist an idea of what you are looking for. Not forgetting the size of the tattoo, placement on the body, color requirements and prize money you can create a competition. Then its time for you to sit back, enjoy and watch the creations come in. At the end of the competition you get to chose your favorite design and the artist then releases your tattoo design so you can take to your chosen tattooist.

I asked Ryan what he could offer to this blog post on how he felt about his experience, and this is what he said, which I thought was perfect for you as you are maybe thinking about your own tattoo design sometime in the future.

“I owe you a great thank you, the design you drew was majestic yet still powerful… I will be proud of this tattoo when it is completed.

I don’t know what I could add to your blog to be honest, I mean this is a memorial tattoo, it might be so simple but it has a lot of thought behind it, even if someone see’s it just as another tattoo, to the recipient it will always remind them of the value behind the tattoo, not only a brother lost but the strength he brought out in me and dominance he had over any situation…. A lion is seen to have such beauty but such more hides behind its eyes, that is the reason for the design, and something you illustrated perfectly….”

Finally as an artist at createmytattoo, it is a great pleasure to be able to create artwork for you, it also gives me chance to meet some wonderful people, make happy memories. I speak for any creative person who enjoys creating art for you, when you enjoy the experience and love what we do for you…. its magic and it is what we live for making you happy.

Alice in Steampunk Wonderland

This is a current commission I am working on, its quiet an impressive theme and there are lots of cool things going on, so I’m really getting into it. The tattoo will stretch from his spine to the shoulders, with ripped skin and mechanical workings and a steampunk city scape with Alice and the rabbit. :) just a sneak preview for now ;)

Rose Vine Tattoo

Hi guys well I have been working on another vine today for createmytattoo and I’m really loving designing these at the moment I feel really inspired :) So heres my latest the Contest holder wanted rose vines for her hip. She wanted smaller roses than normal along with a green or black vine. I wanted to keep the design fairly simple and make it flow, making it wispy and delicate. I often find the simpler the design the more striking it will be, because you can really work on the main elements on the design, in this case the roses and the leaves. After that its all down to lighting effects for this piece, just to add depth and exsenuate the flow of the design. Heres a close up for the detail. Anyone interested in hiring me to do something special for them, I would love to help :) Or if your interested in creating a tattoo contest for your future tattoo clink www.createmytattoo.com

Nicole and Aiden Initials Tattoo

How creative are you with letters??? Contest holder is looking for  something really creative, also something classy, and is going on the neck. Using the initials but not to obvious ;) I made the N wrap around the A and then just let the swirls grow and made sure they flowed, keeping it simple I then play around with them in photoshop to come up with some really pretty variations ;) Here are just three of the designs I came up with at www.createmytattoo.com.

Land and Sea

Its been a while since I last wrote anything or done anything new with my tattoo site. This past year I have been mainly working on my personal art creating new faeries, mermaids and mythical figures. I will continue to do so, but I was missing designing tattoos, and income LOL. As everyone knows its not easy to make a living being an artist at times, although I’m I consider myself very lucky to have a fantastic partner who supports me and encourages me to do what makes me happy, its nice to have your own money to take your man out for a treat once in a while and afford those little luxuries a girl likes to have.

So with that in mind your sure to see me popping up on createmytattoo in the future, entering a few competitions.

Land and Sea” is my latest entry back at createmytattoo The Summery of this design by Contest holder: A delcicate “swirley” lower back tatoo incorporating a flowering vine & a nautical rope symbolizing a love of sea & nature. She also wanted 4 flower buds to symbolize her 4 children.

My take of the design: The pink flower in the centre represent her as a mother, the pink and greens are the heart chakra colors for love and interconnectedness of her and her  boys. With this tattoo if its for your lower back or waist represents a perfect symbolism for the flowers of your soul as they hold your buds of joy. Her four buds represent her boys, each side have the buds facing each other in harmony.

Land and Sea Part 2.

The contest holder wanted the edges of the tattoo to flow more so it looks a little more delicate and tapper off with vines, and it really does the design justice and I am so happy with the final outcome :) so here is the latest version.

I have often thought about tattooing myself and this year I have a wonderful opportunity to learn more about that from a new friend and artist Rob at Ethereal Ink, he is allowing me to tattoo his leg, this will be my third attempt at tattooing and it will be awesome to have the watchful eye of a pro, something I’ve been wanting for some time. I already have a tattoo machine, so its time to put it to action and see what I can do. I’m sure I will write more about this in the feature weeks, but in the meantime its time for me to get ready and go to college :) Have a great weekend what ever your up too.

Nikko Nurtado

The name speaks for itself this artist is one of my favorite artists if you love colorful portraits then this is the man ;) I’ve been looking for inspiration for my own tattoo as well as an artist to do my tattoo and this is one piece I fell in love with because the colors are fantastic.

For more of Nikko’s tattoos check out his website and myspace.

Mermaid Tattoo

This was created for a competition for the beautiful Antigone Sucide So fingers crossed ;) Well i didn’t get chosen this time, hey ho you can’t win them all and besides I did have a lot of fun creating this one :D So anyway she is now for sale on my flash art. Its always good to add more to the portfolio.

Vote for Earth day

Earth Day 2009

This design is of the Goddess and the fae. I used amethyst, peridot, and green amber for there healing properties, for cleansing and protecting the earth. The Fae are our guardians to nature spirit, protecting our sacred land.
I placed the green amber over the earth, with the earth symbol painted on it. The  healing properties of amber help to energize, it also helps the heart chakra bringing Joy and love. Amethyst is one of the most powerful healing crystals creating peace and oneness. Peridot also helps the heart chakra, It is a stone of lightness that counters the effects of negative emotions, and detoxifies negative emotions, bringing them to comfortable levels. It also brings about necessary change, It also helps you understand your destiny and spiritual purpose, helping you attain your full potential. All in all, the stone sharpens the mind and opens it to new levels of awareness. In total the magic of these three stones bring positive, healing, protective thoughts to out scared home earth :)
